Sister Elizabeth holding the icon of St. Michael the Archangel

ICON PRINTS - come in sizes of 5×7 ($20); 7×10 ($30); and, 10 1/2 x 15 1/2 ($40)

The icon is in the traditional way of writing an icon, which means, it is done in the process of praying, not the technique of painting.  The sister who painted these icons does not have the skill of painting, but she has been learning how to pray.  She expressed the ability of painting God’s love through the icon.  She wove her prayer into everystroke of the icon.  To write an icon, egg yolk and pigment are the natural ingredients needed.  The colors are built up from the darkness of the chaos to the great light of the Resurrection.  The light does not come from the outside, but it shines out from the indwelling and true holiness of the objects on the icon.  Buying an icon does not mean that you are paying for a painting; you are adding your prayers to that of the sister’s to bring peace to souls.

For a better understanding of “icon,” Sister Elizabeth suggests Aidan Hart Sacred Icons.  Aidan is a professional  iconographer and member of the Orthodox Church.  His work and articles are of great value.
